09.06.2022Seminar on the activities of supervisory boards for the business community of Moldova

On June 2, 2022, the Corporate Governance Professional Association (CGPA), with the support of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), held an introductory seminar on good corporate governance and efficient operation of supervisory boards for the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova.

During the event, Oleksandr Okuniev, chairman of the CGPA Management Board, spoke about the peculiarities of good corporate governance in companies of public and private sectors of different sizes and areas of activity, noting that a properly organized system of corporate governance and efficient supervisory boards have a significant impact on stability and development of the company.

Mr. Okuniev also spoke about the opportunities to bring independent members onto company boards and shared some examples of supervisory board experience in Ukrainian companies.

Over 70 participants, representing various fields of Moldovan private business, attended the event: manufacturing enterprises, financial institutions, banks, consulting firms, and representatives of major state companies.

Mila Malairau, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova, greeted the participants. Mila noted the importance and timeliness of the discussion and the involvement of leading experts in discussions on the proper functioning of the supervisory boards in Moldova and on the involvement of independent members in their work.

Onorina Soric and Ilya Zaslavsky, CIPE Program Managerі, presented to participants the opportunities for fruitful cooperation between CIPE and AmCham Moldova.

Aliona Stratan, First Vice President of Moldova Agroindbank and member of the AmCham Moldova Board of Directors, supported the initiative to put on the agenda in the Moldovan business community the effective functioning of supervisory boards and the activity of independent corporate directors.

Carmina Vicol, CEO of Prime Capital SRL, Monicol SRL, chair of AmCham Moldova board of directors, noted in her comment that AmCham Moldova is one of the leading business associations in Moldova and its mission is to set the tone and educate companies, initiating new approaches in companies’ activity and business conduct.

The event was moderated by Veronica Sireteanu, Deputy Executive Director for Advocacy and Business Development at AmCham Moldova.

Subsequently, with the support of CIPE, CGPA experts are expected to develop and conduct a training program for board members of the American Chamber of Commerce of Moldova member companies and other Moldovan business stakeholders.
