13.04.2026Boards as the New Norm in Business: Oleksandr Okuniev’s Participation in the HRD Club Ukraine Discussion

Supervisory boards in Ukraine are gradually transitioning from being “optional” tools to becoming an essential element of business development. It was precisely this transformation that was discussed during a meeting of the HRD Club Ukraine, attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporate Governance Professional Association (CGPA), Oleksandr Okuniev.

For CGPA, participation in such discussions is part of a systematic effort to shape the corporate governance market in Ukraine and strengthen the role of supervisory boards in business.

At the heart of the discussion: when and why boards create real value:

▪️ Businesses establish boards not only due to investor requirements, but also because of the need for quality decisions

▪️ The board is not an opponent but a partner to the CEO, helping them see the bigger picture and act more effectively

▪️ Without a corporate governance system, scaling a business becomes significantly more difficult

Oleksandr Okuniev emphasized: “For most business owners, it is important that there is a certain ‘chemistry’ in the relationship between owners and board members.”

The discussion confirmed one of CGPA’s key focuses: developing boards of directors, promoting their role, and working with business owners to implement modern corporate governance practices. CGPA is consistently working to ensure that boards of directors are not a formality but a real tool for strategic management, business development, and resilience.

Thank you to HRD Club Ukraine for the invitation and the high-quality discussion. The topic of supervisory boards as a new architecture of trust and strategic leadership is certainly timely.
